Gangs Of Wasseypur 2 Movie Review

On the whole, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 2 is an Anurag Kashyap show all through and without an iota of doubt, can easily be listed as one amongst his paramount works. An engaging movie with several bravura moments. Watch it for its absolute cinematic brilliancy!

Director, Anurag Kashyap's culmination to this gang-saga is as bloody as the first (if not more); yet it's an easier watch. The story is astutely interspersed with bursts of music (Bihari folkish tunes with a modern twist), humour (crass and rural), high drama and sudden relief - like a sexual climaxing. Even with a high quotient of brutal violence and moral assassination, Kashyap keeps his sense of humour (mostly black) intact, and entertains. GOW II' is an interesting watch, for the brave-hearted. Like the first part, the movie slows down at times (with pointless pistols, hordes of characters and wasted sub-plots); the length needs to be shot down desperately. But otherwise, it's revenge on a platter - served cold (heartedly) and definitely worth a 'second' helping.

This is not a whodunit , this is a ‘how-it-is-done’. So if you believe that the lord is in the detail and the passion with which any action or emotion is expressed, this is your film. Kill Bill/ Rambo fans, book your seats now. Almost every third scene has someone being slashed or gunned down by the trigger-happy cast. And if you’re one for first person shooters, this could really inspire you to hit the console right after the movie.Infact, the first part wasted a lot of time in flagging historical landmarks, in introducing characters and was much scattered with the number of elements and periods to be covered. This one has characters ready to dive into action with a quick backgrounder for new additions, leaving much time to weave a tighter and telling story. Chhi Chha Leather, definitely one that weathers.

Gangs of Wasseypur II plunges straight into action, rendering the first part nearly redundant. Gangs Of Wasseypur II is a damned sight better than the first part, because a lot of the cumbersome subtext is already out of the way when the impressively visceral khoon-kharaba of the second film begins. A man dies, and revenge is sought. That is strictly all we need to know, the rest falling into place as it goes along. And yet, for all its folly -- and the fact that an hour could have been lopped off its running length, easy -- Gangs Of Wasseypur II provides enough cinematic memorabilia to single-handedly last us the summer.

Gangs Of Wasseypur II is as distinct from Gangs Of Wasseypur as today’s Wasseypur must be from the nondescript but dangerous boondocks that the first part dealt with. The sequel gets to the point infinitely quicker than Gangs Of Wasseypur did – it is free from the information overload that weighed down the initial 30 minutes of the first part. The storyline surges forth much faster as the new generation of gangsters, now armed with mobile phones and automatic rifles, gun for each other with greater viciousness and less ceremony than ever before. The revenge, filmed with an operatic slo-mo rhythm, is bloodier than anything you would have seen before. But if you liked Gangs Of Wasseypur, there is no reason why won’t have another blast watching GOW II. But be warned: be sure that your stomach for blood and gore doesn’t give way.

Gangs of Wasseypur II jumps the gun without much ado, taking off from where part I left.GOW was information-heavy, yes, but Wasseypur II is as much a film in itself. Guns speak where abusive language fails. Patience and a real kaleja will see you through this fast-paced, exhilarating blood fest. Kashyap makes sure the gore is beyond redemption. If you’re turned off by it, not his fault.

Kashyap relies on humour to push the plot when it gets stuck with too much of cartridges being expelled from a gun. It takes the sting off to an extent but then he goes back into the 'thick' of things. In short, Part II 'Definitely' does not have a 'Perpendicular' rise. It is off 'Tangent'!
