There isn’t much subtlety in the performances in Cocktail, but it’s Deepika Padukone who walks away with the best role. As attention-seeking Veronica, she injects fun and darkness into the character, and gives evidence of an as-yet-unseen confidence. Boman Irani and Dimple Kapadia raise many laughs as Gautam’s loud, yet funny family, although Dimple ought to sue the makers for those unflattering close-ups. To be fair, you’ve seen Saif do the ‘incorrigble flirt’ thing better and funnier in the past, and it doesn’t help that he appears too old to play the charming rake-who-falls-hard all over again. Saif is sincere, but it’s a tired take. Diana Penty, meanwhile, is refreshingly natural, her vanilla part salvaged by her sheer arresting beauty.
I’m going with two out of five for director Homi Adajania’s Cocktail. With the right ingredients in the right proportions, this might have made for a smooth concoction. But Cocktail is a mostly flat romance; one that could’ve done with more heart.

As for Diana Penty, for a newcomer, she gets plenty of scope but has a limited range of expressions. However, overall, she does have an appeal but it will take a director of immense patience to get her to emote.
Like I said, no fizz, no punch, but a good presentation (read served well in a tall, crystal glass).

In short, the film can easily be compared to a COCKTAIL party in which you are first served with an imported Gin and then later on the bar-tenders start pouring some Desi Daru into your glasses openly. On a serious note, its really sad that they really ruined a potential sparkling film just like that.

What’s Good: The screenplay and dialogues; the songs; the performances. What’s Bad: The same ol’ story; the stretched second half.Loo Break: A couple in the second half. Verdict: Cocktail is a fun movie but gets a bit marred by the dreary second half. Watch or Not? Watch it for the enjoyable and funny first half.

Anil Mehta’s camera work in Cocktail is pure art in motion. Every shot is breathtakingly beautiful, without taking away from the ongoing shenanigans of the characters on screen.Cocktail is a contemporary film that reflects life as it happens all around us…. just as crazy, twisted, beautiful, funny, weird and lonely as anyone’s life can be. It’s about easy choices and hard decisions and how life still goes on, despite it all. It’s a cocktail you definitely wanna try!

‘Cocktail’.Which is just another name to call a one guy-two girls shtick, which is, as you and I know, one of the oldest in the book. ‘Cocktail’ starts off headily enough, and bubbles along till half time; post that, the sips get diluted, and the swallows take much longer.to be any good, a rom com needs heart-ache and tears, but needs to be careful of sogginess. 'Cocktail' sparkles when the fun and games are on (even though it has some scenes which have been bunged in just for laughs), and gives us a couple of splendid moments when there is silence. But it can’t handle the being emo half as deftly.

For the most part, Cocktail, directed by Homi Adajania and scripted by Imtiaz Ali (a sort of high priest of the genre), steers clear of the pitfalls and delivers an eminently watchable love story that breaks the mould. Cocktail has just the right mix of fizz and flavour to allow the occasional and inevitable crinkles of triteness to flow well below the surface. It is definitely worth a visit to the multiplex.

Verdict: On the whole, Cocktail is colourful, fascinating and attention-grabbing. Though the movie suffers a few loopholes, but, you definitely can't ignore the threesome magic of Saif-Dippy-Diana.

COCKTAIL is a complex film, which reflects the complexity and intricacies of human relationships. The highpoint of the film is the three sharply defined characters, besides, of course, the styling and visuals. But this slice-of-life film skids in the post-interval portions. In fact, if the first hour is absorbing, fascinating and pleasurable, hitting the right notes when required, the second hour is half as exciting as the first. What ails the film? Well, too many songs, an over-stretched story, the inconsistent screenplay, the beaten to death finale and the lethargic pacing. On the whole, COCKTAIL has a fascinating first half, charismatic performances, harmonious music and the trendy look and styling as its aces, but the second half is not as tempting or intoxicating as the first hour. It pales when compared to the attention-grabbing first hour.

All three genuinely do look like they're having a good time, this camaraderie making for a reasonably enjoyable first half -- with an upbeat, sexy vibe.Actually, the second half of Cocktail borrows from every conceivable romantic cliche, featuring much boohooing and accidents and well-meaning lies and insidious manipulation. It's as if Imtiaz and Sajid Ali -- the film's screenwriters, the men who must squarely be blamed for this tiresome misadventure -- couldn't decide which stock-ending to go for, and so decided to throw in a bunch. It's a pity, and not just because this could have been the great unconventional cinematic threesome we so desperately need. Cocktail has a handful of moments and a few genuine sparks, but finally crashes and burns so spectacularly that it's hard to focus on the positives. We must thank it, thus, for Diana Penty.

The script in the pre-interval phase breezes through with some light-hearted camaraderie between the three lead actor. However there's also a downside. For example, the music provides an adrenaline rush and the comic scenes make you smile; but there's a drastic drop in the tempo during some of the talkie portions, where the gaps in the conversation make you restless. The film takes a more serious turn in the second half when friendship makes way for love. Yes, Cupid strikes at the intermission point; and the film follows the oft-seen path of a typical triangular drama that has been a Bollywood staple through the last two decades.Cocktail does have some terrific highs. However what Cocktail should be truly applauded for is its permissiveness. As a film it breaks shackles and ushers in a new free spirit that Gen-Now will relate to.Go see Cocktail with your closest friends. It will definitely strengthen the bond.

It’s a hollow approach to relationships that leaves you with an empty feeling of nothingness. Here’s a cocktail mixed with laughs, dances, songs, tears, stunning beaches but the cumulative effect of this mix: permanent sobriety. One of the chief reasons why this cocktail fails to hit your sweet spot is because you don’t empathize with any of the characters. There could be many reasons for this but to point one: none of them seem worthy of your attention and concern. Still keen to figure out who Saif ends up with? Why don’t you deduce it yourself like any mature adult would? I would recommend the scientific method used to pick item girls in films lately: Eenie Meenie…

Talking about the songs, they are as foot tapping as they could get. “Tumhi Ho Bandhu” deserves a special mention here as it will make you get up from your seats and shake a leg as the song is played on the big screen. The locations of the movie are eye catching and the styling of the actors is in sync with their onscreen characters.
Final verdict: ‘Cocktail’ is worth a try!

The pattern in films written by Imtiaz Ali is clear. Appealing locations, ill-fated love stories, characters with distinct traits and music you can take home.Cocktail is no different. From hip cinematography to very believable performances and peppy music, Cocktail has it all.You can’t hate a film like Cocktail nor can you love it in totality. If you’ve liked Ali’s storytelling before, there’s no harm in catching it at least once. Cheers!: One Time Watch

On the downside, the film does not at any point give a fresh feel. Parts remind you of Tarun Mansukhani’s ‘Dostana’ and parts of Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Love Aaj Kal’. Yes, it has its own light hearted comic moments, a bit of righteous emotion that you relate to, and of course, some really hep songs, but overall it just remains to be an average watch. Watch it with a bunch of friends after sipping a cocktail. ;)
