Supermen of Malegaon Movie Review

Ratings:5/5 Reviewer:Martin D'Souza Site:Glamsham
SUPERMEN OF MALEGAON should be our entry at the Oscars. This is movie-making of a different kind. Faiza Ahmed Khan has shown us what she is capable of. Time for us to celebrate her genius. The five star rating is for the concept, content and delivery style. But more importantly, it is for the fearless manner in which this idea has been given shape to. Kudos to PVR Director's Rare, which is throwing its doors open to meaningful cinema and film-makers that would have otherwise been lost in the crowd.

A full-fledged documentary on the Malegaon film industry was made several years ago and aired on Doordarshan. At the time there were no digital cameras available, and the directors shot on VHS cameras. Now filmmakers there produce films on handycams with tapes. They have not yet gone digital. It will be interesting to see the next phase of the industry. For now, enjoy the documentary Supermen of Malegaon, releasing in India in PVR cinemas on June 29, 2012. Malegaon Ka Superrman will also have a theatrical release in the future, backed by filmmaker Anurag Kashyap.

You cannot describe the film in better words than this. This is art, pure, and simple, devoid of smart artifacts and tricks to impress the audience. It touches the core of your being, without making big dramatic statements.
And since this reviewer gave two stars to GOW, in comparison SUPERMEN OF MALEGAON deserves all the five stars and probably more. So, we assign five stars to the film, and one of these is for PVR’s Directors Rare initiative. Keep it up PVR. It is a wiser and saner option than producing films like SHANGHAI and throwing precious resources down the drain.
